Matthew Williams

bio > matthew williams  | director of photography | still photographer
matt was born and raised in los angeles where he graduated from the academy of photographic arts in North Hollywood, specializing in commercial still photography. after developing an interest in film and motion picture work, he attended UCLA’s film school to study cinematography. matt currently shoots projects ranging from feature films, tv movies & tv series, to IMAX films, music videos & commercials, and is versed in a wide variety of production formats from 16mm, 35mm, 65mm, to the latest 24p high definition and digital cinema formats.
tv series (all film) have included; “Hollywood Detective” (A&E), “Encyclopedia Brown” (HBO),  ”Promised Land” (CBS ), “Touched by An Angel” (CBS), “State of Mind” (Lifetime) and was 2nd unit d.p. for Season 2 of “Big Love” (HBO).
television promos (film & digital) have included; Spike TV, Oxygen, TBS, NBC and Fox’s fX channel, to theatrical film trailers for the Sundance Film Festival and award winning PSA spots for Children’s Miracle Network, the American Heart Assoc, Salvation Army, United Way, Foundation for a Better Life, and various anti-smoking campaigns.
commercial (film & digital) spots have included;  Subway, Iomega, Cadillac, Earthlink, Mcdonald’s and Q-Lube, Germany’s RTL II Network,  Panasonic, and the television and theatrical campaign for Children’s Miracle Network which garnered 3 Telly’s, including 1 for best cinematography. matt has also photographed the print campaigns for several of these spots as well.
marketing projects (film and digital) have included; Adobe, Altec-Lansing, Franklin Covey, Melaleuca, Panasonic Broadcast, Panasonic / NAB (6 years), Sibu, and Xango.
IMAX 65mm film projects have included; “Hearst Castle: Building the Dream” (1996), “NSYNC: Bigger Than Live” (2001), “India: Kingdom of the Tiger” (2002), dramatic segments for the tour de france film, “Wired to Win” (2006), “Stephen Hawking’s: Beyond the Horizon” (2008) and “Journey to Mecca” (2009), which was photographed in Morocco.
digital cinema productions/movies have included; “Stories of Olympic Glory / 2002 Winter Olympics” film, “Boxboarders” (2006), “Saving Sarah Cain” (2007) for 20th Century Fox, and “Lock and Roll Forever” (2008) for Sony Entertainment, which was filmed in the USA and Japan.
35mm film feature projects have included; the Japanese-American WWII feature film, “American pastime” (2007), as well as a musical spin off of “High School Musical” for MTV, “The American Mall” (2008), both shot on 35mm film and finished with the digital intermediate process for theatrical release.
